Are children in your classes or settings motivated and engaged in every lesson?
Do you struggle to maintain enthusiasm and interaction from every pupil?
In the world of primary education, capturing pupils’ attention from the get-go at the start of a unit or lesson and ensuring they leave the classroom with a sense of accomplishment is paramount. How many educators out there at times struggle to keep their class engaged, especially after lunch, for the afternoon lessons?
The Lion Learning Pathways provides comprehensive planning and resourcing of the key stage 1 and key stage 2 national curriculum and range of learning opportunities to enhance pupils’ engagement throughout the primary curriculum, from captivating entry points to reflective and celebratory exit points. The Lion Pathways curriculum emphasises the importance of creating a dynamic and supportive learning environment where pupils are actively involved in their education. The systematic creation of captivating hooks at entry and celebrations of learning at the end of modules is a core feature of the Pathways Curriculum.
In my current role as an Executive Headteacher - supporting teachers across all primary key stages at the front line, it is clear that the afternoon curriculum can be seen as a poor relation to the morning curriculum – typically with more focus of precious time to adapt and cater to all needs of our children in the ‘core’ subject areas. Too often I’ve seen lessons being pitched ‘in the middle’; causing the most able pupils to get bored as tasks were too easy and lower attainers struggling to access the tasks and benefit from these. In my early career as a teacher, and mirrored across many of the schools and teams that I currently support – there have been a number of times I was thankful that the door was shut for some afternoon lessons as a result of the lack of adaptation, exciting hooks, pupil participation and talk partner opportunities not planned for. There is a better way – and the Lion Learning Pathway Curriculum – is that way.
The Lion Learning Pathways Primary Curriculum is built by a team of specialist teachers, for teachers. Drawing on the innovations made annually – via the feedback received from over 450 teachers and 7,500 pupils, the real driver to improve the quality of the broad primary curriculum was to support language development as well as the knowledge, skills and understanding that we wanted for all pupils at each key stage.
The implementation of the Lion Pathways Curriculum promotes high levels of pupil participation, enables pupils to reflect on their learning and builds knowledge, skills and understanding cumulatively for pupils across the primary phases. There are pre-planned exciting and dynamic entry points to all 234 units, over 700 reflective and celebratory exit points and over 4,790 already differentiated tasks across all units!
By igniting curiosity, promoting active participation, and fostering reflection, the implementation of the Lion Learning Pathways Primary Curriculum empowers pupils to become lifelong learners with a passion for knowledge. I don’t have any concern with unmotivated learners on the afternoon sessions any more – and neither do the teams and hundreds of practitioners who have made the move across to the Lion Pathways Curriculum.
